The first time I visited this site I was just a teenager. I rode there on my bicycle with a group of friends. To be honest we hadn’t set out to find this place in fact we just stumbled over it on our journey. However I’m very glad that we did, for it left quite an impression on me.
We all climbed up the hill and when we got to the top we read a sign that said this is the place where St George killed a Dragon, or something like that. Well what a surprise, we had no idea at all that we were living so close to such an important site of English history. I say English because St George is the patron Saint of England. His emblem is a red cross on a white background and it forms part of the British flag. It is often seen at sporting events such as football matches or the Olympics. Anyway back to what I was saying, this is the site where St George killed a dragon and if you look closely at the picture you will see a small white area of chalk on top of the hill. It is said that this white area is where the blood of the Dragon was spilt. As a result no grass since then has ever, or will ever, grow there.
