Below is a list showing how families are linked together.

Grandfather (male) is the father of one of your parents

Grandmother (female) is the mother of one of your parents

Each family has two sets of Grandparents

Husband (Male)   Wife (Female)

 

Husband and Wife become a Father (Male) and Mother (Female) once they have children

 

Children are either boys (Male) or girls (Female)

 

A male child is the son of his parents

 

A female child is the daughter of her parents

 

If there is more than one child in a family and they are different sexes they are brother (Male) and sister (Female)

 

If the children are both boys they become brothers

 

If the children are both girls they become sisters

 

Large families will probably have a mixture of both brothers and sisters.

 

Brothers and sisters are also called siblings

 

The sister of your father or mother is called Auntie

 

The brother of your father or mother in called Uncle

 

If you are a boy your uncles and aunts refer to you as their Nephew

 

If you are a girl your uncles and aunts refer to you as their Niece

 

The children of your parent’s brothers or sisters are called Cousins

 

Once you marry your husband or wife become the son-in-law or daughter-in-law of your parents

 

And your parents become your husband or wife’s father-in-law or mother-in-law

 

Once you marry your husband or wife become brother-in-law or sister in law to your brothers or sisters

 

A Family with one child is called “A one child family”

 

A Family with only one parent (for some reason the mother or father is not around) is called “A one parent family”
