You should mention

What the subject was.

Why it was your favourite subject.

How long you studied it.

When I was at school my favourite subject was History. I had a History lesson every week and this continued for the four years I was in Secondary school. I mostly enjoyed History lessons about the Kings and Queens of England and especially when the teacher talked about how they lived, loved and died. Sometimes instead of having a history lesson in the classroom our teacher would take the class on field trips to historical houses and castles. My classmates and I really enjoyed our days out and it was fascinating to see inside stately homes and castles. I suppose it was a chance to see how the other half lived. Nearly always the rooms would be decorated in the styles that were so popular in years gone by. We also got to see beautiful tapestries that must have taken simply ages to make. We also got to see magnificent oil paintings of handsome men and beautiful ladies. In the paintings the men would always be wearing wigs and the ladies often had tiny waists and plaited hair. Bright woollen carpets that were nearly always coloured red and gold decorated the floors. In the bedrooms Four-poster beds were draped with curtains and the beds themselves were covered in bed linen made of French lace.

We got to see inside dungeons where people would be imprisoned, the Boys in our class really enjoyed that! I can remember that one of the dungeons we visited was very dark and scary and the boys frightened us and made us scream. They really got told off for that but when I look back on it now it was funny besides boys are supposed to tease girls it’s always been that way. I suppose another reason I liked going to see these places was that I used to make believe that it was me living in a castle or palace, being waited on by Ladies in Waiting and servants, owning lots of beautiful jewellery and expensive looking clothes. I think all young girls would like to be a Princess, I know that my friends thought that way.

My favourite subject as a King was Henry the eighth. He was a very brutal and powerful man. He was very young when he became King of England, only eighteen and by coincidence we share the same Birthday! He has been the subject of a lot of films and books. He had six wives during his lifetime. One died, he divorced two, two he had beheaded and one survived. The executions took place in the Tower of London, which by the way was another wonderful place we visited from school, how frightening that must have been, to be locked up in the dark awaiting the end of your days. King Henry was 55 when he died and he is buried in Windsor Castle. Our teacher took us there one day, but we couldn’t get to see much because the present day Queen was staying there at the time. I didn’t find our History lessons that interesting when we covered present day history, I am sure living in Buckingham Palace these days would be nice but I would prefer to live in a Castle in the middle of nowhere!
