As a teacher I was always being asked by students to recommend some Western music for them to listen to. And I think that listening to music is an excellent way to improve a student’s level of English. The problem is that my taste in music does not really lend itself to the study of English. Therefore I think that the best thing I can do is give a list of Artists that I know students are listening to now and add a few suggestions of my own. I would like to say that having the lyrics (words) to the music you are listening to is very important. I can’t really see the point in listening to songs if you do not know what is being said. Fortunately quite a few artists supply the lyrics to their songs in the booklet that comes with the CD. For CD’s that don’t come with the lyrics I recommend you check out the many web sites offering words to songs.
