Mike

Hello, you’re new here aren’t you?

Jane

Yes, I arrived this morning. I came down from Scotland on the over-night train.

Mike

Well my name is Mike and we’re all off to the City. Do you fancy coming, that’s if

you’re not too tired?

Jane

Yes, that sounds like a good idea to me and by the way my name is Jane.

Mike

Ok, let me introduce you to everyone. The skinny one is John.

John

Hi Jane.

Jane

Hi John.

Mike

The girl with the purple hair is Sadie.

Sadie

Hello.

Jane

Hi Sadie.

Mike

Ok let’s go or we will miss the bus.

Sadie

So Jane did I hear you say that you had just come down from Scotland.

Jane

Yes, I arrived this morning.

Sadie

Which part of Scotland do you come from?

Jane

Edinburgh.

Sadie

Oh the Capital.

Jane

Well it makes a real change to hear someone say that.

Sadie

Say what?

Jane

That Edinburgh is the Capital of Scotland of course. A lot of people think that Glasgow is the Capital of Scotland.

John

I knew that Edinburgh was the Capital of Scotland.

Sadie

Of course you did John.

John

I’ve been there lots of times. I think the nightlife there is really great. Especially when the festival is on.

Sadie

Tell me John when did you see the festival?

John

Well I haven’t exactly been there when the festival is on.

Sadie

I didn’t think you had.

Mike

Come on Sadie leave John alone.

Jane

Tell me Mike are your friends always like this?

Mike

I’m afraid so.

John

Everybody picks on me.

Mike

That’s not true I’m sure someone must like you.

Sadie

Yes his mother.

Jane

Sadie you can’t say that.

John

Why not it’s true.

Mike

Is there anything you need in the City Jane?

John

I suspect Sadie will change the colour of her hair again.

Jane

No I don’t think so I just want to look around. And just how often does Sadie change the colour of her hair?

John

It all depends on what kind of mood she’s in.

Sadie

No it doesn’t.

John

Oh yes it does.

Mike

They love each other really.

Jane

Is that our bus?

John

I do believe it is.

That first meeting
